Dorothy Semple

Hello! My name is Dorothy Semple, and I am a Registered Provisional Psychologist with the College of Alberta Psychologists. I strive to create a warm, welcoming , and judgement-free space where you can feel heard, understood, and supported. I believe that therapy is a collaborative process, and I work alongside each client  to better understand their experiences, identify what may be getting in the way of their well-being, and develop practical skills that support healing, growth, and meaningful change.

Prior to counselling, I worked for over five years as a psychometrist, which provided me with the opportunity to work with people experiencing a wide range of challenges, including the effects of traumatic experiences, physical and brain injuries, personality-related difficulties, and psychosocial stressors. I also have experience counselling individuals who have sustained moderate to severe brain injuries, as well as their family members as they navigate the challenges and changes that can accompany a caregiving role.

My approach is person-centred and trauma-informed, while drawing from evidence-based therapeutic practices. I incorporate strategies from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and mindfulness-based approaches, tailoring treatment to each individual’s needs, goals, strengths, and circumstances. I believe there is no single approach that works for everyone, and I value getting to know each person and collaboratively determining what feels most helpful.

I welcome individuals of all backgrounds and identities and strive to provide an inclusive and affirming space for clients of all genders, sexual orientations, cultures, and neurotypes. Whether you are navigating a difficult life transition, recovering from a traumatic experience, adjusting to changes following an injury, or simply looking to better understand yourself and create meaningful change, I would love to support you along the way.
